The model urban forest makes space for tree and forests by developing three policy models that encourage preserving and planting more tree canopy. They are:

  1. Public Education
Trees Atlanta strives to change attitudes towards trees and foster a wider aceptance of a larger tree canopy. We hosts tree walks, tree mail, and tree plantings to spread the word on the importance of trees and our urban forests. For other websites that educate about trees go to links.
  2. Ownership Model
Trees Atlanta works hard with many groups to purchase land to preserve the trees. One such success was the recent purchase of 30 acre track of land near Cheshire Bridge Road near Piedmont. The Wildwood Urban Forests is a perfect demonstration of what dedicated citizens can accomplish. Trees Atlanta supported Green DeKalb, 125 million dollar bond referendum to purchase land. It is estimated that over 1000 acres of land will be purchased with this money.
  3. Regulation Model
In the last five years DeKalb, Gwinnett, Cobb, and Fulton have implemented new tree protection ordinances. The city of Atlanta is currently working on a new tree protection. Trees Atlanta has been instrumental in saving existing trees and encouraging counties to hire professional urban foresters and arborists.

To help Trees Atlanta continue to preserve and protect our urban forest please donate or volunteer. To learn more about tree protection be sure visit the following.
