Docent Training 2023

The Docent Training Program prepares volunteers to become a Certified Volunteer Docent for Trees Atlanta’s walking tours of trees. Docents lead the walking tours of the Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum and can also lead other tree tour topics and routes. Docents can use their training to take on other speaking roles representing Trees Atlanta, such as talking about Trees Atlanta's mission and programs at community meetings and events.

The 2023 training will have an emphasis on the area where Trees Atlanta's new building is located (825 Warner Street Atlanta).

The Docent Training Program consists of 5 classes, plus additional tour requirements to become Certified. For more details about the Trees Atlanta Docent program and requirements, please read: What is a Trees Atlanta Docent?

2023 Docent Training Schedule:

  • Sat., January 28: Introduction and Program Overview
  • Sat., February 4: Introduction to the Atlanta BeltLine and Arboretum
  • Sat., February 11: Tree Identification
  • Sat., February 18: Optional Arbor Day Planting Project
  • Sat., February 25: How to Lead a Tour
  • Sat., March 4: Mock Tour Presentations, Feedback and Next Steps

Class Time: 9:00 am - Noon. Coffee and light refreshments served before each class starts.

Location: Various Locations. This includes Trees Atlanta - Kendeda Treehouse, 825 Warner Street (location is subject to change) and the various BeltLine trails. Classes will be a mix of in-person and virtual.
