Sat Jul 16 | 9:30am-11am | W.D. Thomson Park

Copy of a DSC_0489.JPG

Explore a forest ecosystem and build your own long leaf pine savanna out of forest putty with Trees Atlanta and Tyke Hike. Families will explore the forest at W.D. Thomson Park, read a story book, play with forest putty and have fun outdoors!

The longleaf pine savanna is one of the richest habitats in North America, and it exists in the southeastern US. It depends on fire to destroy other pine species and hardwoods which outcompete the longleaf pines. The longleaf pine is most notable for thick bark, which aids in the resistant to fire and to southern pine beetle outbreaks.
