TreeKeeper Training 2024

Sat Jul 13 | 9am-12pm | Trees Atlanta Kendeda TreeHouse

Trees Atlanta's TreeKeeper program trains volunteers to become community leaders in caring for the urban forest. The program consists of practical tree education over the course of 8 consecutive Saturday sessions. By the end of the program, volunteers can complete an optional 24-hour volunteer service requirement to become a Certified TreeKeeper. This event is made possible thanks to support from the City of Atlanta. Scholarships are available for volunteers who wish to train to lead volunteer efforts in their community.

The program includes indoor and outdoor activities, science-based content, engaging hands-on demonstrations, and interaction with classmates and instructors. Training is for ALL levels and explores (topics subject to change):

· 7/13 - Ecology of Place

· 7/20 - Tree Identification

· 7/27 - Tree Pruning 101

· 8/3 - Tree Health (soil, mature tree care, common tree pests)

· 8/10 - Tree Selection

· 8/17 - Invasive Species

· 8/24 - Atlanta's Canopy/Heat Island Effect

· 9/7 - Project Leadership, What's Next for TreeKeepers

Students will receive: expert instructors for 8 classes, a field guide to trees in the Eastern United States, and a discount at the Annual Trees Atlanta Tree Sale. Classes begin with coffee and light snacks, because we all learn better with sugar and caffeine, right?
