TreeKeeper Training 2023

Trees Atlanta's TreeKeeper program trains volunteers to become leaders in caring for the urban forest. By the end of the program, volunteers can also become a Certified TreeKeeper after completing project leadership requirements. The TreeKeeper program consists of practical tree education over the course of 8 consecutive Saturday sessions; optional 24-hour volunteer service requirement can be completed to earn Certified TreeKeeper status.
Training is for ALL levels and explores:
- Atlanta’s Trees & Urban Forests
- Tree Selection, and Care
- Tree Diseases & Invasive Plants
- Proper Tree Pruning Techniques
- Project Leadership Skills
Students receive classroom resources, including an Eastern Trees field guide, a young native tree, and more. The program includes indoor and outdoor activities, science-based content, engaging hands-on demonstrations, and interaction with classmates and instructors.
Students are strongly encourage to earn their Certified TreeKeeper status by completing 24 hours of volunteer service in a leadership role can be completed with Trees Atlanta or with another organization that is related to urban forestry. Certified TreeKeepers are eligible to lead others in volunteer projects. Certified TreeKeepers are important contributors in our mission to protect and improve the urban forest, either by volunteering with Trees Atlanta's existing programs or by creating their own projects beyond Trees Atlanta's reach.
** Session Dates **
Classes meet from 9 am to noon on these Saturdays:
July 8, 15, 22, 29 and August 5, 12, 19, 26.
Classes are in person or on location. Schedule of locations will be provided to students in advance.

Meeting Location: Trees Atlanta Kendeda TreeHouse (825 Warner Street Atlanta GA 30310) and various locations in the city.
- We will meet in parks for our Tree Identification, Pruning, Invasive Species classes.
- The full syllabus, including locations for each class, will be emailed to students in late June.
Registration and Cost: There is a fee for this program which helps us to defer program costs; however, students who are residents of the City of Atlanta my qualify for a scholarsip (limited number available). Please fill out this short form to be considered for a scholarship. Contact susan@treesatlanta.org with questions.
Recommended Ages: 16 and up (participants age 16 - 18 must provide a liability waiver signed by a legal guardian if participating individually.)
