Forest Stewardship Training 2026

Sat Oct 03 | 9am-12pm

Forest Stewardship training includes a series of classes held on Saturdays in October. The goal of the Forest Stewardship program is to introduce concepts for identifying plants, environmental effects of invasive plants, and methods of control for the everyday community steward. We hope that Forest Stewards will use what they learn to help lead volunteers in Forest Restoration in greenspaces where Trees Atlanta already works and in their own communities.

Participants will learn virtually with video lessons sent ahead of the Saturday classes and in-person at Outdoor Activity Center on Saturdays. The themes of each class are indicated below (and may change in response to class needs).

  • Saturday, October 3 (Outdoor Activity Center): Identifying Native and Invasive Plant Species: Morphology, Phytogeography, Phenology
  • Saturday, October 10 (Outdoor Activity Center): Invasive Plant Species: Why and How to Remove Invasive Plant Species
  • Saturday, October 17 (Outdoor Activity Center): Replanting with Natives: Understanding Ecological Interactions While Developing a Reforestation Plan
  • Saturday, October 24 (Trees Atlanta Kendeda TreeHouse): Certified Volunteer Webinar / How to Apply Forest Stewardship Experience
  • Optional - Saturday, October 31 (Outdoor Activity Center): Practice for Leading Volunteer Projects; Lead a Mock Volunteer Project

Completion of Sessions: Attendance at all four classes is required to receive your certificate of completion. After completing this Forest Stewardship program, you will be eligible to earn "Certified Volunteer" designation. Certified Volunteers (CV) are able to participate in and lead projects that require more advanced knowledge and experience. Click here for more information about Certified Volunteer pathways.
