Start a Free Will
A 20-minuted guided process to create a will and document your planned giving. Use on its own or to prepare to work with an attorney
You can plant and protect trees for generations to come by including Trees Atlanta in your will or trust. Planned gifts cost nothing today and allow you to make an incredible impact, which is why so many people choose to make them. If you are beginning or making updates to your estate planning documents, we encourage you to take advantage of a free resource offered through our partnership with FreeWill. Trees Atlanta can also assist with other types of giving, including stocks, qualified charitable distributions (QCD) from IRAs, and donor-advised fund (DAF).
Trees Atlanta is offering our supporters free access to FreeWill, an online tool that guides you through the process of creating your will or trust. You can use this FreeWill resource on its own, or use it to document your wishes before finalizing your plans with an attorney.
Have you already included a gift in your will or trust? Please fill out this notification form to let us know! We would love to thank you for your generosity.
Do you have an IRA, 401(k), life-insurance policy, or any other assets not included in your will? If so, these are called non-probate assets and you must plan your beneficiaries for them separately. Use this online tool to make your plans and designate us as a beneficiary of one or more of these assets.
Using FreeWill is offered as a service, and it is not required to include Trees Atlanta in your estate planning. If you’ve already made plans, please consider telling us so we can update our records. Technical support will be provided directly by FreeWill.
We hope you find this resource helpful. If you would like to discuss these options with Trees Atlanta staff, please contact giving@treesatlanta.org. Your gift will create a foundation for the future. Our work today is important, but it is equally, if not more important, to ensure that future generations enjoy the many benefits that trees bring to our community.
Trees Atlanta is able to receive donations through other financial services.
If you choose to support our organization through a third party service, please consider contacting our team at giving@treesatlanta.org when you complete a transfer. By letting us know, we can ensure that your gift is properly acknowledged. We can also respond to special instructions or preferences, as applicable.

Many people choose to give stocks, securities, or mutual funds instead of gifts of cash. Giving appreciated assets like these help you avoid paying capital gains taxes, and can give you an income tax deduction for the full value of the gift, if you’ve had the assets for more than one year.
Give appreciated assets and enjoy benefits, or add us as a beneficiary of these assets and eliminate estate and inheritance tax, making the most of your gift. To make giving stocks easy, please use our Donate Stock portal to complete your paperwork.

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a tax-efficient way for individuals who are age 70 ½ or older to make gifts directly from their Individual Retirement Account (IRA). QCDs can count towards satisfying an individual’s Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year, which is the minimum amount that an individual must withdraw from their IRA each year once they reach age 73.

A donor-advised fund (DAF) allows individuals to make charitable contributions and receive an immediate tax deduction of contributions into the fund. The funds are managed by a DAF custodian, and the donor can recommend grants to their preferred nonprofit organizations. Donors can contribute to the fund over time and recommend grants to charities at their discretion, providing flexibility in their giving strategy.
