Lunch and Learn: Georgia Protected Species List - How Conserving Atlanta’s Urban Forest Can Help

Wed Jan 13 | 12pm-1pm | Virtual/ Zoom

Which of Georgia’s wild neighbors are struggling, and what can we do to help?

Join Trina Morris, with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Trees Atlanta to learn more about Georgia’s updated Protected Species List and what we can do to help. Why update this list now and what does it do for wildlife and their habitat in Georgia? From bats and birds to plants and other wildlife, learn how habitat loss, urban development, transportation improvements, energy development and changing landscapes and climate can affect Georgia’s vulnerable species—and why conserving Atlanta’s remaining forests matters more than ever, not only for the trees, but for our wild neighbors in the City in the Forest and beyond.

About the Presenter: Trina Morris is a Program Manager and Wildlife Biologist with the Wildlife Conservation Section (WCS) of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GA DNR). She completed a B.S. in Wildlife at Purdue University in 2000 and received a M.S. in Biology/Ecology from Shippensburg University in 2002. She has been working for DNR since 2005 and her work with bats in Georgia focuses on surveys for rare and endangered species, population monitoring, white-nose syndrome, cave conservation and education. She manages the WCS terrestrial wildlife program. She also serves as the liaison between the Georgia Department of Transportation and the GA DNR focusing on reducing impacts of transportation projects on high priority species and habitats. Together with her team, she works on environmental review, rare species location data, habitat management, and a variety of other rare and endangered species issues.
