Lunch and Learn: Remove, Replace, Rewild Atlanta's Urban Forest

Thu Feb 25 | 12pm-1pm | Trees Atlanta Kendeda TreeHouse

Invasive plants are changing the face of Atlanta’s urban forest—but you can be part of the solution.

Join Trees Atlanta’s Forest Restoration Senior Manager, Madison Cummiskey, during National Invasive Species Awareness Week 2026 to learn how to help your patch of forest recover and Atlanta’s native ecosystems thrive.

We will dive into the importance of a management plan for invasive plant species removal, choosing the proper removal techniques, and knowing your native forest and what it needs after removal. Also, what to expect during and after removal. We will highlight what invasive plant species do to our local ecosystems and how vital our native plant species are to maintaining biodiversity and creating resilient forest ecosystems.

About the Presenter: Madison Cummiskey is the Forest Restoration Senior Manager at Trees Atlanta and is a certified Arborist and licensed pesticide applicator. Originally from Rochester NY, graduated from SUNY ESF in Syracuse NY with a bachelors of wildlife science, in 2017 Madison started working for Trees Atlanta. She has worked in over 50 greenspaces in and around Atlanta and specializes in invasive plant species management and habitat restoration. Madison has helped with the restoration of EDG since its inception and is extremely passionate about community involvement and stewardship in greenspaces.
