Workshop: Acorns Aglow - Acorn Lantern Puppet Workshop
Thu Sep 10 | 6:30pm-9pm | Trees Atlanta Kendeda TreeHouse
This September, be part of one of Atlanta’s most magical nights—the Atlanta Beltline Lantern Parade—and help light up the Southwest Beltline Arboretum with a lantern of your own making.
Join Trees Atlanta and Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons for a hands-on Acorn Lantern Puppet Workshop celebrating the growing community light that protects and improves Atlanta’s urban forest. You’ll get to create your own acorn lantern puppet (materials included) and you’re invited to walk with fellow tree stewards in the parade on Sat September 19.
Why acorns?
- Acorns represent the collective power of our small actions in Atlanta. We invite you to participate in this workshop to earn your first acorn toward your City Forest Certification and/ or meet City Forest Certified Atlantans who have successfully earned 16 acorns to certify their yard or neighborhood greenspace.
- Celebrate Atlanta’s 30+ native Georgia oaks nourishing Atlanta’s wildlife, cooling our city, and more.
- Help us light the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum—the longest linear arboretum in the world -cared for year-round by Trees Atlanta staff and volunteers.
About the Artist: Chantelle Rytter is a parade artist best known for founding the Atlanta BeltLine Lantern Parade with the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons, of which she is the proud Captain. Chantelle has created a family of annual parades based in community participation over the last fifteen years in many Atlanta neighborhoods and cities and communities across the south east. Chantelle grew up in Baltimore and studied integrative arts at Penn State University. She lived in New Orleans for ten years and fell under the spell of parade culture and the notion that individual creative play can be a civic gift.
