Atlanta is known as a City in the Forest. Volunteers and the city have taken steps to preserve the tree canopy that makes Atlanta so unique.

Atlanta is affectionately known as a “city in the forest.” Surrounding the iconic skyline of buildings stands giant trees and other types of plant life that envelop much of the man-made infrastructure. This gives the city of Atlanta a very different look from many other major cities across the country.

Trees Atlanta is one of the main organizations responsible for keeping Atlanta a “city in the forest.” About 48% of the metro Atlanta area is covered in trees. This is possible because this non-profit organization has worked with volunteers and the municipal government to protect the green life around the city.
