Plantlanta: Our Biggest Tree Planting of the Year

Planting season’s just begun, which means Plantlanta is only a few weeks away! Trees Atlanta will host Plantlanta, its fourth annual city-wide tree planting, on Saturday, November 2 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

First conceived in 2016 by then-NeighborWoods manager Alex Beasley, Plantlanta is a scaled-up version of our weekly community forestry projects held throughout the city. Instead of planting in one or two neighborhoods as we do on any given Saturday, Trees Atlanta staff, volunteers, and Atlanta City Council representatives will host projects in each of the 12 city council districts in one morning. Hundreds of volunteers will spend their Saturday morning planting, mulching, and watering new trees to increase the canopy in Atlanta neighborhoods. Of the many tree planting projects we’ll host this year, Plantlanta is by far the largest. In just a few short hours, we’ll plant nearly 500 trees all across the city.

Willette Jackson, NeighborWoods coordinator and this year’s Plantlanta organizer, has been working tirelessly for months to scout project locations, attend community meetings, and plan this ambitious project. The NeighborWoods program strives to involve residents in every aspect of greening the city, and our enduring relationships with community and civic leaders are key to the success of this project.

Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or itching to plant your very first tree, we’d love to see you at this year’s Plantlanta. Check out our volunteer opportunities below:
