Student Urban Forest Work Day

On Tuesday, October 22, 2013, Trees Atlanta, Perkerson Elementary, and Trinity School came together to participate in a student Urban Forest Work Day at the Perkerson Elementary campus.

Like Trinity, Perkerson has a great urban forest area, but it is in need of some work. After the work day, Perkerson students and teachers will be able to utilize their urban forest in their daily lessons.

Fifth-grade students from both schools met at Perkerson Elementary on Tuesday, October 22nd at 9:30 am. After a group ice breaker, the schools separated into teams; the teams were a mixture of students from each school.

Each team visited four stations during the two-hour work day. Stations included:

  • Clearing/tilling/planting
  • Trail blazing
  • Trash pick-up/composting
  • Art station/ tree ID

Afterward breaking for lunch, the students finished up the day with some collaborative art and a group photo.

Trees Atlanta had a great time during this work day! Working together to restore the Perkerson Urban Forest and bring students together was a hands-on way to feel connected to nature and have fun.
