Trees Atlanta to Plant a Grove of 150 New Trees in Chastain Park

Chastain Park

Atlanta, GA (March 26, 2015) – Trees Atlanta is moving forward with the planting of a Members’ Woodland in Chastain Park on Saturday, March 28th. The grove of up to 150 native specimen trees- including oaks, elms and dogwoods- will honor all those generous and forward-thinking people who have contributed to Trees Atlanta’s efforts to preserve and expand Atlanta’s tree canopy.

Trees Atlanta is working in partnership with Chastain Park Conservancy on this special initiative. “Trees Atlanta has been an invaluable resource in Atlanta and we are honored they have selected Chastain Park for this initiative. 150 native trees will provide shade, cleaner air and improved aesthetic to both Chastain Park and the surrounding neighborhood” said Chastain Park Conservancy Executive Director Rosa McHugh. “Chastain Park’s 268 acres and two-million annual visitors will greatly benefit from the generosity of Trees Atlanta and its donors.”

This planting project undertaken by Trees Atlanta would not be possible without strong partnerships with businesses, including Forest Investment Associates and Sparks Grove, and community groups, including the Magnolia Garden Club, who are providing funds and volunteer labor. “It has long been the commitment and purpose of the Magnolia Garden Club to support local organizations that promote horticulture, beauty and the preservation of our environment,” stated Carol Martin, Magnolia Garden Club President. “Members of the Club also take responsibility for cleaning and planting seasonal flowers in the huge urns that adorn the public playground of Chastain Park.”

Volunteers will plant the trees during special projects on March 27th and 28th. We hope all Atlanta citizens will enjoy these trees for many years to come.

We hope you will join us in this special legacy project. We are excited to be a part of Chastain Park’s future and invite you to be as well. With the help of our donors, members and volunteers, Trees Atlanta has planted 100,000 trees since 1985; help us get started on the next 100,000 trees by giving today!
