Tribute Trees

Honor Someone With a Tree

Life’s special moments.

Celebrations of achievements, memorials, milestones, and gratitude can live on for generations as a tree planted in someone’s honor.

Dedicate trees to family, friends, a beloved pet, co-workers, or clients. Send a unique gift for birthdays, Mother’s or Father’s Day, or any celebration. Planting a tree is a gift that truly pays tribute and gives back for generations to come, as trees provide wonderful environmental, health, and aesthetic benefits to everyone.

Each Tribute Tree becomes a part of Trees Atlanta’s One Million Trees Initiative, an innovative regional partnership of local nonprofit conservation organizations, cities, and counties across metro Atlanta. Recipients of a Tribute Tree acknowledgement will be notified that their tree is being counted in our progress toward one million trees planted or conserved in our community. Thank you for your generous gift.

How a tree is planted in someone’s honor:

  • We plant trees from October through March.
  • Tribute Tree requests can be submitted at any time, and cards/acknowledgements are sent within days.
  • Tribute Trees that include a planting event require advanced scheduling. Please coordinate with our Tribute Tree coordinator to discuss scheduling. Whereas cards/acknowledgements can be sent within days, the timing of the tree planting event may occur at a later date, including the next planting season.
  • Species selection and tree location are subject to the discretion of Trees Atlanta arborists. Many locations are subject to the approval of the property owner and/or community members.
  • Physical markers are typically not allowed (and not provided by Trees Atlanta).
  • Each Trees Atlanta tree is watered and maintained for a two-year establishment period.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where will my tree(s) be planted? Can I choose the location?

Due to the nature of our work, we are unable to place markings or identifiers on trees nor can we tell you the exact location, unless you choose one of the options which include that benefit.

We invite all of our tree dedicators and recipients to participate in a tree planting and tree care events happening throughout metro Atlanta. Please refer to our volunteer calendar for upcoming opportunities. We would love to see you there!

What does the recipient receive?

Please refer to the descriptions above. If you have questions or special requests, please contact us.

The donor will receive a receipt or acknowledgement letter by email or mail (depending on level) and the benefits listed in the descriptions above. The recipient of the Tribute Tree will receive an email or card (depending on level). All markers indicated in the descriptions above are attched to the tree (tag) or placed at or near the base of the planting location (marker). There may be times when land owners do not approve of markers to be placed where trees are planted; we will notify donors of these limitations.

Where does my contribution go?

Tree Tributes provide funds to support Trees Atlanta’s reforestation efforts including planting new trees and caring for trees we’ve already planted in and around Atlanta. Since 1985, Trees Atlanta’s Tree Tribute program has allowed us to plant and care for trees in neighborhoods, along major city streets, in parks, and in school yards. Many thousands of trees are now thriving in our city because of people like you who chose to acknowledge someone with a meaningful Tree Tribute gift.

How can I specify the tree species or location for my Tribute Tree?

Some levels of giving allow species and/or location to be determined by the donor. Due to the nature of this tribute gift, it would be best to coordinate the details, including size, tree type and location over the phone.

Once you select the appropriate level of giving, we will reach out to you to clarify further details.

Can I make a dedication for other occasions besides memorials?

Yes! Tree Tributes can be made to commemorate any occasion, including birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, graduations, and any reason you wish.

In addition, during the winter holiday season, Trees Atlanta offers a special, limited-edition tree greeting card that can be sent to anyone on your holiday gift list.

Can I add a message to the Tribute Tree card?

Yes. We invite you to personalize your Tree Tribute card. There is a ‘personal note’ section on the online payment form where you can write this note.

This text will be included in electronic cards, and we will hand write your special message and include your name on physical cards so that the recipient is aware that the gift was made by you. If you’d rather write the note yourself, please include instrubtions in the note section, and we will mail a blank card and envelop to your address. You are also welcome to come to the Trees Atlanta office to pick up your card, if you wish.

Can I have the Tribute Tree card mailed back to me?

We typically mail the card to your honoree, but can also mail a blank card to you for personalization. If you would like the card mailed to you, please make a note in the “Please notify” field on the online form. You may then fill in your name and address in the recipient field and indicate in the personal note field “return to me.”

You are also welcome to come to the Trees Atlanta office to pick up your card, if you wish.

How long does it take for my Tribute Tree card to be sent?

Electronic cards and physical cards are sent out within 2-3 business days after we recieve your order; however, there maybe times when order volume is high and it may take up to 5 business days before your dedication is sent out. Please consider additional days for the U.S. Postal Service delivery time.

I am interested in placing a large order. Is the online form the easiest way to place it?

You can order any number of Tribute Trees through our secure website. If you are interested in placing an order of 5 or more Tribute Trees, please call Trees Atlanta to coordinate details.
