Sunset Tree Tour: Atlanta Beltline Arboretum Northside Trail
Sun Aug 09 | 7pm-9pm | Northside Beltline Trail, Parking Lot
This guided evening walk explores the history and trees of the Atlanta Beltline Northside Trail. We'll learn the history of the 1863 Civil War Battle of Peachtree Creek, the 1953 fight to the Supreme Court for integration of our city parks, and the latest news of the Atlanta Beltline. As we walk, we'll learn about our native trees; how to identify them; how they were used by the early colonists; and how to care for them today. We'll walk past some of the 500 trees recently planted by Trees Atlanta volunteers and visit some century old Champion Trees. We'll learn how to identify invasive plants, how to successfully manage them in your backyard and why Trees Atlanta advocates for native plants. Come learn with us on this beautiful walk.
About the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum: Established in 2006, the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum serves as a component of Atlanta’s urban forest, acting as a public garden, ecological corridor, and a learning landscape. The Arboretum is a dynamic collection of wild and cultivated tree and woody plant species, along with extensive southeastern grass and forb groundcover that showcases sustainable landscape management and demonstrates native plant use in an urban setting. Upon completion the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum will comprise over 100 acres across the 22-mile linear public garden, earning the title of the world’s longest accredited linear arboretum.
About the Guides: Maxine and Kent Watkins live in Sandy Springs. They enjoy hiking, biking and exploring new parks during their free time. They are experienced tour leaders supporting Trees Atlanta's mission by planting, pruning and sharing their love of trees with others.
