Sunset Tree Tour:The Living Legacy of Freedom Park-Trees, Trails, and Civic Roots
Thu Oct 08 | 6:30pm-8pm | The Freedom Park Conservancy
Join us for a stroll through Freedom Park, one of Atlanta’s largest parks, and the official art park of the City of Atlanta. The Carter Presidential Center sits at the center of the park, and we’ll explore how the park connects to many local amenities, including the Atlanta Beltline and Arboretum. We’ll learn about the history of this park (and its treasured legacy of hard-won civic activism); enjoy art installations along the trail; and identify some of the many native trees that make up our urban forest.
The Freedom Park Conservancy is a donor-funded nonprofit organization that works in partnership with the city of Atlanta to preserve Freedom Park as a vibrant asset to the fabric of Atlanta. With the dedicated support of neighbors and communities, Freedom Park will continue to bring world-class experiences to the heart of Atlanta. Learn more about their work here.
The Carter Presidential Center comprises both The Carter Center, a nonprofit organization advancing peace and health worldwide, and the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, operated by the National Archives. Together, they share a 37-acre campus located in the heart of Freedom Park.
About the Guide: Alison Mawle is a docent with Trees Atlanta and also regularly leads tours on the Southwest Atlanta Beltline Arboretum Trail and started this Tree Tour in partnership with the Freedom Park Conservancy for their 27th anniversary.
