Tree Tour: Celebrating and Protecting Trees at Abernathy Greenway Park in Sandy Springs

Sat May 16 | 10:30am-12pm | Abernathy Greenway Park

Take a walk with us through the Abernathy Greenway Park and discover the amazing trees that call it home! Along the way, we’ll share stories about why trees are important & what can be done to help protect Atlanta’s tree canopy.

You’ll get to meet some true giants—like one of the biggest southern red oaks in Atlanta with a trunk so wide it would take several people holding hands to hug it. Together, we’ll learn & practice simple tricks for telling trees apart so that you can impress friends and family on your next walk in the park.

This walk is a great way to connect with nature, spend time outdoors with others in your community, and celebrate the trees that contribute so much to the health and character of a city.

About the Docent: George Weaver is a retired lawyer from Atlanta and has made the study of trees a lifelong hobby.
