Join Trees Atlanta and UGA for the 2026 Great Southeast Pollinator Census and help turn a simple observation into meaningful community science. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll count pollinators in Trees Atlanta’s ethnobotany garden; collect real census data to support researchers studying pollinator populations; and spend time with local bees, butterflies, flies, and other pollinators that help keep Atlanta blooming. The Great Southeast Pollinator Census is a University of Georgia Project launched in 2017. Today it is open to residents of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi. The goals of the project are to create sustainable pollinator habitat, increase the entomological literacy of our citizens, and generate useful data about our pollinator population**. Short bio for speaker(s):

Jo Rytter (Mama Jo) is a green-shirt volunteer at Trees Atlanta. Jo has a B.S. in horticulture, specifically fruits and vegetables (Pomology, Olericulture) from the University of MD, & an M.S. in Plant Pathology from Penn State. Jo worked within the Penn State Extension program, supporting tree & small fruit growers in diagnosing fruit diseases and insect problems. There were many pollinators in those orchards and vineyards! After retiring, Jo moved to Atlanta over a year ago. Jo is creating a pollinator garden in her new home with plants from Trees Atlanta. She gardens organically when possible, and loves growing herbs to eat and use for medicinal purposes.

• Doors of the TreeHouse open at 10:00 am.
• Getting Here: This event will take place at the Trees Atlanta Kenda TreeHouse (825 Warner St. SW 30310). Bike racks are located on the side of the building close to the Atlanta BeltLine path and near the grain silo. We are approximately 1 mile from the Oakland City and West End MARTA train stations (Red and Gold Lines) Limited number of parking spaces are available at our location in addition to limited street parking.
• Registration required. This tour is free. Please consider adding a donation when you register. All "tips" are donations to Trees Atlanta.
• Bonus opportunity: * **Click **here for the option to register for a Tree Tour of the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum Southwest Trail, which will end at Trees Atlanta with the option of participating in the census.
• What to Bring and Wear: Reusable water bottle, bug and sun protection; comfortable shoes and clothing for the weather. We will provide printed materials, clipboards, yoga mats, chairs, drinks, and snacks.

• Feeling snacky? 🌳🍔🍧Order food from our neighborhood’s Atlanta Beltline Marketplace, just steps from the nursery and pick up at  GABS (Good As Burgers), or Glaciers Italian Ice. Or, enjoy a meal at Lee and White a short walk down the Beltline Arboretum.
