Workshop: Collect Acorns for Atlanta's Future Forest!

Join Trees Atlanta for our first-ever Native Tree Seed Collection Workshop and help grow the next generation of Atlanta's urban forest. Together, we'll collect acorns from native oaks and seeds from buckeyes that will be carefully cleaned, cold-stratified, and nurtured in Trees Atlanta's nursery before being planted throughout metro Atlanta.
As we collect, you'll learn how to identify native tree species, harvest seed responsibly, and discover why locally adapted genetics are essential for growing healthy, resilient urban forests. The seeds we gather will become the shade trees, wildlife habitat, and healthier neighborhoods of tomorrow.
Maybe you've planted a tree or volunteered to restore a forest—now you can experience where it all begins. Join us for this unique opportunity to help grow Atlanta's future, one acorn at a time.
About the Instructor: Cate Hughes joined Trees Atlanta in 2017. After managing the volunteer tree planting program for years and a brief stint on the development team, she now manages Trees Atlanta’s native tree nursery. Cate is an ISA-certified arborist and proud caretaker of her own home garden planted with native woody shrubs, perennials, and trees. She delights in the endless wonder, beauty, and surprise of native ecosystems — there is so much with which to fall in love! — and has never met a “plant person” she didn’t like.

Getting Here: This event will take place at the nursery 1150 Allene Ave SW, Atlanta, GA 30310 (across the street from Trees Atlanta Kendeda TreeHouse (825 Warner St. SW 30310). Bike racks are located on the side of the building close to the Atlanta BeltLine path and near the grain silo. We are approximately 1 mile from the Oakland City and West End MARTA train stations (Red and Gold Lines) Limited number of parking spaces are available at our location in addition to limited street parking.
