2023 Georgia Arbor Day Student Art Contest Accepting Entries

Let’s get ready for Georgia Arbor Day, Feb. 19, 2023 with our annual Student Art Contest! Whether you are a student, teacher, parent, or friend – get the word out to young artists across metro Atlanta!

Georgia celebrates Arbor Day in Feburary while spring is just around the bend. Trees Atlanta celebrates Georgia Arbor Day with a whole week of events, including free tree seedling adoption days, classes at the Kendeda TreesHouse and in Atlanta schools, tree planting projects, and the announcement of the Student Art Contest winners!  Take a look at the 2021 Georgia Arbor Day Student Art Contest Winners.

Rules and Submission Guidelines

What is it?

  • Trees Atlanta’s Georgia Arbor Day Art Contest is a celebration of trees and creativity in which participants submit a work of art in the medium of their choice.
  • Artwork should reflect the participant’s interpretation of this year’s theme: “Healthy Trees, Healthy Me!”
  • Only one submission will be accepted per student.
  • Submissions must be original and created by the student.
  • Qualify under one of our three art categories (see below).

Is there a deadline?

  • We will accept submissions from November 14, 2022 to February 3, 2023. All entries must be received by email or arrive at our office by mail or in person by 2/3/22 by 3:00 PM.

Who can participate? 

  • Students in all metro Atlanta area schools, including homeschool students, in grades K-12 are invited to participate.
  • First place, second place, and third place winners will be selected from each age group for each art category:
    • Grades K-2 (age 6-7)
    • Grades 3-5 (age 8-10)
    • Grades 6-8 (age 11-13)
    • Grades 9-12 (age 14-18)

Will there be prizes?

  • Yes! Winners for each art category will be selected by a panel of Trees Atlanta judges.
  • Studnet winners will receive prizes, including cash and/or items, and their winning work will be published on our website.
  • Teachers and/or adults who submit art on behalf of the student will receive a gift card to
    go towards the purchase of educational materials for their classroom/student(s).
  • Winners will contacted by Trees Atlanta and be announced during our Georgia Arbor Day Celebration Week.

How do I submit my entry?

  • All participants must complete the entry form: Arbor Day Art Contest Registration Form
  • Entries can be emailed or arrive by mail or in person.
  • If submitting work by mail or delivering in person, participants must print this form and fill in required information. A completed form must be accompany each submission. This information will allow Trees Atlanta to confirm receipt of your submission.
  • All digital files must be named according to the format as shown:
    Last name-First initial-grade-SchoolName
    Examples: “Doe-Jane-K-PerkersonElem” or “Doe-John-12-SouthAtlantaHS

What are the Art Categories?

Category Visual Writing Film/Video
Acceptable Submissions Drawing, painting, photography, mixed media collage, and sequential art (comics). May be traditional or digital. Poetry, narrative writing (story), or informational writing (essay). May be handwritten or typed. Video essay, live action narrative, and animation.
Guidelines May be submitted by email or delivered by mail or in person

Max size: 14” x 18”
